Behind The Lens

UK based Matt Darlington has been making a career out of his passion for inventive photography since 2010. During this time he has built a striking portfolio and worked with iconic brands and eclectic individuals. Reoccurring motifs within his work include painterly use of light and surrealist editing techniques. Matt’s aim is to deliver his unusual take on the everyday and the extraordinary to a wider audience through the medium of photography.

By regularly collaborating with contemporary artists from other disciplines such as taxidermists, milliners and fashion designers Matt keeps his work fresh, inspired and broadly creative. Matt refuses to settle into a comfortable, predictable routine with his projects, instead preferring to continually experiment with equipment and techniques.

From studio to subterranean bunkers, Matt likes to control his lighting through the use of flash and continuous illumination. When out on location this can pose some logistical challenges but creative thinking, a well-stocked kit and determination mean never having to compromise on the end result.

Matt’s skill-set was honed by working for world-renowned photographer Rankin and further acknowledged through the acquisition of a high-profile client and collaborator list that includes Dior, Oxford University Press, Tesco, The Huntsman of Saville Row, Serge Denimes and Pete Doherty. Matt has also appeared on Channel 4 TV show Four Rooms with a collection of photographic prints.
